AffinBank And Affin Islamic Bank Appoint New Chairman

KUALA LUMPUR – Affin Bank Berhad (“AFFINBANK”) has appointed YABhg. Gen. Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohd Zahidi Bin Haji Zainuddin (R) as the new Non-Independent Non-Executive Chairman with effect from 22 June 2017.

Gen. Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi, aged 69 succeeds YBhg. Gen. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ismail Bin Haji Omar (R) who has retired from AFFINBANK.

Currently, Gen Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi is also the Chairman of Affin Holdings Berhad since 17 October 2005. He was the Chief of Defence Forces from 1999 until his retirement in 2005. He had served the Malaysian Armed Forces for 39 years, holding many key appointments at field and ministerial level. 

Gen. Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi holds a Master of Science Degree (Defence and Strategic Studies) from the Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan and had attended the Senior Executive Programme in Harvard University, United States of America, Command and General Staff College Philipines, Joint Services Staff College Australia and National Defence College Pakistan.

Affin Islamic Bank Berhad (“AFFIN ISLAMIC”), the wholly-owned subsidiary of AFFINBANK has also appointed Encik Mohd Suffian bin Haji Haron as the new Non-Independent Non-Executive Chairman with effect from 1 June 2017.

Encik Suffian, aged 72, was appointed as Director of AFFIN ISLAMIC in 2006 and Director of AFFINBANK in 2009. He started his career as a Diplomatic and Administrative Officer, attached to the Prime Minister’s Department and the Ministry of Public Enterprises.

He graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Economics and holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Oregon (USA).
